THE force is well and truly alive in Southampton according to hundreds of fans who have packed out screenings of the long awaited instalment of the Star Wars epics at the city's Odeon cinema.

Staff - and even some eager fans - at the Leisure World cinema wore fancy dress in celebration of the film's release yesterday.

Screenings of Episode III Return of the Sith began during the early hours of Thursday and are predicted to sell out for at least another week.

Assistant manager Kelly Kempster said: "Luckily most people have booked tickets in advance and the cinema has been able to cope with the interest really well.

"The reaction to the film has been really good. It's the one that everyone has been waiting for."
