A WATERSIDE school will present two annual awards in memory of a popular pupil who was killed in an accident.

Ryan Liddon, who went to Hardley School in Long Lane, Holbury, was walking through Hythe last September when he was hit by a car.

Now the school has decided to honour Ryan, 15, who was regarded as an outstanding student and a superb prefect.

One of two trophies named after him will be presented to the pupil who shows outstanding dedication to their friends. The other will be given to the student with the best personality and sense of humour.

Emily Bull, 16, of Holbury, has become the first recipient of the Ryan Liddon Memorial Trophy for Friendship.

New Forest East MP Julian Lewis made the presentation at a Year 11 record of achievement ceremony, which marked the end of lessons and the start of home study leave leading up to exams.

He also presented Kayleigh Barker, 16, of Fawley, with the Ryan Liddon Memorial Trophy for Personality and Humour.

Later, all 188 pupils in Year 11 released balloons in memory of Ryan in the presence of his parents, Anthony and Angela Liddon, of Larkspur Gardens, Holbury.

Mrs Liddon said: "Ryan was in Year 11 and would have been at the record of achievement ceremony if it hadn't been for the accident.

"What the school is doing in memory of Ryan is lovely and very much appreciated. Some of his friends came up and hugged me when we arrived. Dr Lewis also expressed sympathy and said what a tragedy it was."

A school spokesman said: "Ryan was an outstanding young man with a massive group of friends.

"He was very academic, a superb prefect and someone who was always happy.

"Fellow pupils wanted to say goodbye and the record of achievement ceremony seemed the perfect time to do so."
