IN partnership with Gowrings Mobility, the UK's leading manufacturer and supplier of wheelchair passenger vehicles, Renault is delighted to announce that it has sold its 2,000th wheelchair-accessible Renault Kangoo conversion, the most achieved by any of its converters in the UK to date.

To celebrate this achievement, Renault UK's managing director, Philippe Talou-Derible, recently visited Gowrings Mobility head office to present the keys in person to the 2,000th customer, Dennis Oakley, and his carer Pat Payne, from Alresford.

Speaking at the event, Mr Talou-Derible said: "Renault has enjoyed a good relationship with Gowrings Mobility over the years, and we're pleased that so many people have been able to enjoy the freedom of motoring as a result.

"We continue to be very impressed with the standard of engineering workmanship, professionalism and customer service at Gowrings, and look forward to continued success in this unique market in the months and years ahead."

Linda Ling, managing director of Gowrings Mobility, said: "As the largest buyer of Kangoo in the UK, our close working relationship with Renault is going from strength to strength.

"Our specially adapted Kangoos are often first choice with both families and organisations such as the NHS, ambulance services, charities and Dial-a-Ride.

"It's a great-looking car with plenty of room for a wheelchair user to travel safely and comfortably."

The Renault Kangoo is Gowrings Mobility's most popular vehicle and its appeal is universal, with the two current Kangoo conversions about to be joined by a new special edition to mark Gowrings Mobility's 40th anniversary for providing accessible transport.

Based on the Kangoo Expression, the new Anniversary Gold is extremely well equipped, with alloy wheels, air conditioning, electric and heated door mirrors, electric windows and CD player with four speakers, driver and passenger airbags, plus twin sliding doors and a choice of three rear seating options - none, one or two seats.

The latest Kangoo wheelchair passenger vehicle (WPV) has a choice of two manual transmission models: 1.2 16V petrol or 1.5 dCi 80, plus a 1.6 16V petrol with automatic transmission - a feature which is not available on either of its key rivals, Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner.

The special edition model has a lowered ramp for extra headroom, an integral lightweight ramp, four-point wheelchair restraint system, and lap and diagonal belts for the wheelchair passenger.

Renault's safety message is also clearly evident as the Gowrings Mobility Kangoo has achieved the prestigious Renault Accord Technique accreditation, the company's quality assessment programme for all conversions across the UK and Europe.
