PETER Kain always dreamt about forging a career as a writer, but teenage aspirations to become a newspaper reporter were forgotten when an offer to work as a tea boy on the Daily Sketch did not sound inspiring.

The Barton on Sea resident chose instead to become an apprentice toolmaker and his schoolboy dream to put pen to paper was neglected until he retired decades later.

Now at the age of 80, Peter's first book, A Mixed Bag, is being published under his pen name Jamie Robins.

The ex-golfer got to grips with using a computer and wrote the light-hearted tale about a set of clubs telling tales about their owners.

Peter is now working on his sixth book and is crossing his fingers that one of them will prove to be another winner with the publishers. "I just think of a title and go from there," he said.
