FRESH food, something we all look for when we go out for a meal, but rarely get. That's where the newly opened Canute Caf differs.

Owned and run by Jenny and Craig Fox-Johnson, the Canute Caf aims to provide fresh, natural food for people to enjoy in a relaxing environment.

"We're accredited by LEAF (Link the Environment And Farming), who assess farms, and so we can guarantee that all of our food isn't just up to standard, but natural and exceptionally fresh with no GM products," explains Jenny. "We're also licensed to make our own food products, fresh on the premises," she added.

On the Canute Road, opposite Ocean Village, the caf is much more than just a restaurant, it's an eating experience offering dishes from across the globe combined with a unique atmosphere

Upstairs you'll find an area where customers can sit and enjoy a coffee and a pastry in the morning with teas in the afternoon. You'll also spot a brick oven used to make fresh breads and pastries and a delicatessen for fresh open sandwiches.

Downstairs it's easy to see why the Canute Caf has developed the nickname The Tardis, it's like walking into another place. There's a sense of Southampton's maritime heritage from the decking that has been used throughout the restaurant, and the unique chairs, made locally from canvas to capture the maritime feel. The other striking feature is the open kitchen that allows customers to view chef Thierry Stein hard at work.

"I like the open kitchen because it allows me to see the people enjoying the food," explains the talented Frenchman. "Also it makes me feel like part of the restaurant, which is good as some places hide you away," he added.

Stein, a chef for 15 years, grew up in the South of France where he developed his passion for food, before travelling the world trying out new recipes, an experience that adds extra depth to the Canute Caf's extensive menu. I wanted to make food from fresh again. And I don't use lots of sauces, just basic meals at a high quality that can be told by taste."

The Canute Caf is certainly more than just a place to eat, it's an experience you'll never forget!
