FED-UP Saints fans are so disgruntled with their club's fortunes they have put their chairman up for sale.

Rupert Lowe has been put on his very own transfer list - courtesy of angry fans on auction website eBay - and they're so desperate to get rid of him that one fan is even offering to pay out a whopping £10m!

The joke auction has been under way for just 24 hours and was started by a disheartened fan calling himself "davidpoore".

As the Daily Echo went to press 38 people had bid for the man at the helm of St Mary's

stadium - whose condition is simply described as "used" - with the largest bid coming in from someone known as 7paper7, who says he would pay out £10m to shift Lowe from the corridors of power.

The antipathy against Lowe, condemned for seeing off eight managers in seven seasons, comes after Saints were relegated from English football's top-flight division for the first time in 27 years last weekend.

Fans sat dumbfounded in the stadium as the reality of life in the Championship set in following a 2-1 home defeat to Manchester United, while others demonstrated outside and called for Lowe to go.

Punters wanting to bid for Mr Lowe on eBay have been lured by a scathing sales pitch that blames him for the club's relegation and urges: "Snap this guy up now and do what you must for the club we all love! Happy Bidding."

Information on the auction page says Lowe will be posted to the successful bidder for £3 (post and packaging), plus an optional £1 for insurance.

However, under a section titled Seller's Payment Instructions, it says: "This is a bit of fun. Nothing will be sent and no real payment is needed. Just show your support for our club!!!"

Southampton FC refused to comment on the spoof sale.

Asked if he thought Mr Lowe was worth more than £100,000, a spokesman said: "We're not making any comment on this at all."

But supporters' clubs were able to see the funny side.

Nick Illingsworth, spokesman for the True Saints Association, said: "It's good that someone can have a laugh at this trying time. If we didn't, we'd be crying.

"Frankly, I wouldn't bid 100p for him. Maybe £100,000 would be a fair price if Lowe's shares were included, although bidders better move fast because they'll not keep their value much longer.

"The chairman is not a popular man at the moment. Anything that can be done to pick at him is a bit of fun, but later the Saints have got to realise the seriousness of their position."

Saints' then head coach Steve Wigley was put up for sale on eBay last year, with the bids running into millions of pounds.
