NEW Southampton port boss Doug Morrison has followed his predecessor Andrew Kent in being appointed to the board of docks owner Associated British Ports Holdings.

Doug, 53, who started at Southampton on April 1, will begin his responsibilities at the company's annual meeting on Tuesday, April 26. An ABP worker man and boy, Doug has worked for the firm since leaving school in 1968 and arrived in Southampton from the ports of Hull & Goole where he spent two years.

He describes Southampton as the "jewel" in ABP's crown.

Chris Clark, ABPH chairman, welcomed Doug's appointment to the board.

"I am delighted to welcome Doug Morrison to the board," he said.

"I am especially pleased with his appointment because he brings with him a wealth of practical experience and knowledge of the ports industry.

"ABP's Ports of Hull, Goole, Ayr and Troon have witnessed strong growth under his management."
