SHE is the only British female solo artist to appear in the charts for five straight decades - and she's coming to Southampton.

Lulu will be making the fans want to shout after announcing that she will be joining Elton John on stage for the first ever pop concert at St Mary's Stadium next month.

Most famous for her breakthrough hit Shout, which shot her stardom in the 1960s at the age of 15, Lulu will be joining Elton as his guest and she said she can't wait.

As revealed by the Daily Echo in February, the concert, which will see Elton performing more than two hours of hits including the classics Rocket Man and Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, was described as a major coup by the club as they attempted to attract big names to the venue.

With the addition of Lulu, who this summer is due to release a new album of R & B classics, Southampton Football Club hopes the concert will be an even bigger success.

A club spokesman said: "We are delighted to have a performer of Lulu's stature playing alongside Elton John at the Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium.

"The concert has already generated a lot of interest on the south coast and we hope this addition to the line-up will make the concert an even bigger success."

Lulu, whose hits also include The Man Who Sold the World in the 1970s, Relight My Fire with Take That in the 1990s and more recently We've Got Tonight with Ronan Keating, said: "I'm really excited to be touring with Elton this summer. His concerts are electric. I've known Elton for many years and he has so much energy it's contagious. I can't wait to start the rockin' on stage in Southampton."

Elton last performed in the area five years ago when he played at Broadlands as part of his solo "evening with" concert series, although he has played dates at the University of Southampton and the city's Guildhall during his career.

Tickets for the all-seater concert on May 28 cost between £35 and £60 and can be purchased from Ticketmaster on 0871 230 5449, See Tickets on 0870 405 0449 or Ticketline on 0870 444 5556. Customers will be limited to six tickets each.
