Molire's The School For Wives will receive its English premiere at The Nuffield.

Directed by Patrick Sandford the production is set post-Second World War in a sleepy, sunny town in the South of France, before the student revolution of 1968.

Monsieur Arnolphe sets out to create his perfect partner - young, attractive, not too intelligent and best of all, programmed never to look at anyone else!

He chooses Agnes, a young girl of ten and puts her in a convent to be brought up in complete innocence and ignorance and learn his three wishes to "Love God, love me and learn to sew and knit".

But when she leaves his School For Wives, will Agnes devote her innocent love to Arnolphe or will his plan backfire?

The play is wonderfully funny and hugely enjoyable. The Nuffield is twinned with a French Theatre and its plays are always well received by the audience. Tickets from £15. Box office: 023 8067 1771.
