WHILE the Brit awards were stealing the headlines, another hotley-contested music competition was the talk of Eastleigh.
The annual Battle of the Bands competition was held at Stoneham Park Social Club and attracted more than 200 students,
The audience was treated to a wide range of musical styles from rock to heavy metal and punk.
Seven bands were selected to perform on the night, each with a 20-minute spot.
Votes were cast by the audience and the winners were Phoenix Down, a heavy rock band whose performance really got the crowd moving.
As a prize, the band will get to perform at the Barton Peveril College's Valedictory Ball in July at Southampton University.
