FOR the second time in three weeks Graham Bungay led Southampton Running Club's senior men home in a major road event.

This time he clocked a personal best of 75 minutes and 48 seconds in the Gosport Half Marathon, which attracted a field of more than 1,000 runners from all over the south.

The unexpectedly mild weather brought the best out of Southampton's men in an event that served as the third round of the Hampshire Road Race League, as well as the Hampshire County Championships. Mark Pickin followed Bungay home in 78.56 (pb).

Others: Peter Costley (vet-40) 80.18, Paul Carter (vet-45) 80.42, Paul Buckley 81.03, Ian Richardson (vet-50) 83.06, Martyn West 84.16 (pb), Graeme McRobert 86.16, Mike Read 86.57 (pb), Alan Rushton (2nd Hants vet-60) 87.17, Tim Allen 88.03, Jim Bennett 89.31(pb), Alan Doney 89.44, Alex Thompson 91.17, Dave Adams (vet-40) 93.40, Paul Harvey (vet-45) 98.34, Martin Rosell (vet-40) 103.20, Kim Batten (vet-50) 104.31 and Ray Gee (1st Hants over- 70 vet) 109.16.

It was Ray Gee's first race after breaking his ankle in an RR10 race in June.

SRC's women continued their strong challenge for honours in Division 1 of the Hampshire Road Race League. They were brought home by Debbie Coslett, third overall lady in 86.40, with Rachel Byers finding great form to record 91.19 for third over-35 Hampshire woman. Alice Neal was top senior Hampshire Championship lady with 93.24 and the team was completed by Holly Crane in a 101.02pb.

At the Wimborne 10 and Dorset County Championships, new SRC member Simon Ridley managed a top-ten finish in a personal best 58 min 42sec - despite having to halt at eight miles to recover a loose shoe!

Action continues this weekend with Hampshire Cross-Country League at Overton and the Hampshire Road Race League's fourth race of the series, the Hayling 10.
