WE ARE under starters' orders for Christmas! Or as the Germans might Frohe Weihnachten! The seasonal festivities broke out in style in Southampton over the weekend.
For the first time the city hosted a German market. It was a case of vielen danke in Above Bar as shoppers revelled in the festive mood.
The Marlands Shopping Centre and West-Quay both switched on their Christmas lights displays.
Cbeebies presenter Sarah Jane Honeywell, who is starring in the Mayflower's pantomime as Peter Pan turned on the Marlands lights spectacular to cheers from scores of youngsters. Rick and Rachel from the Power FM breakfast show injected Yuletide spirit into shoppers when they turned on the lights displays at WestQuay.
Outside, oompah bands, the smell of bratwurst and fine German wines and beers added to the party atmosphere as Christmas festivities kicked-off in Above Bar on Saturday in the city's German market.
The market opens daily until Thursday, December 23 selling traditional German wares - as well as top quality food and drink. The lights also went on in Fareham, Eastleigh and Romsey.
