THE increasingly popular Blue Hours cabaret returns to New Greenham Arts in Newbury on Friday, November 19, at 8pm.

Host Barb Jungr will open the evening in her own inimitable style with reworked songs by her favourite artists and the occasional standard interspersed by witty banter.

Barb will then introduce Sarah Moule, whose easy, laid-back, jazzy stylings of Fran Landesman and Johnny Mercer songs are bound to make her a hit with regulars and Blue Hours newcomers alike.

Her album, It's A Nice Thought, drifts through one inevitable favourite to another, from the relaxed It's Cool To Be Cool to more up-tempo numbers such as Feet Do Your Stuff.

When reviewing the album for The Musician, Sue McCreeth said: "What I like most about her style is the way she can sing with incandescent clarity in one phrase, and sinful smokiness the next."

The auditorium will be dressed in full cabaret style, with table seating, candlelight and a fully licensed bar.

The Blue Hours is the name given to the time between the end of the daylight, before the beginning of full dark.

It's also a range of perfumes by Guerlain and is the title of a song by Hans Werner Henze.

On Friday, December 10, the Blue Hours features Helen Watson.

Fans of the monthly cabaret should also look out for the world premiere of Barb's new one-woman show, coming to New Greenham Arts in the new year.

Tickets, priced £9 (£7 discounts), can be booked in advance from The Corn Exchange box office on 01635 522733, or log onto the website at www.cornexchangenew.com
