HUNDREDS of people will be getting their skates on next month for Southampton's annual Euroblade extravaganza.

Around 1,000 in-line skaters, including up to 600 from twin-city Le Havre, are expected to turn out for the event.

The ten-mile course will start and finish at the St Mary's Stadium and the route will wind across the city centre.

It is now in its fourth year and the free event is open to all ages and takes place on Sunday, October 17.

Craig Lintott, from Southampton City Council, which funds the event with authorities in Le Havre, said: "It's not a race, it's just a fun day out for everyone who takes part.

"It's also a chance for people from this city and Le Havre to be able to mix together with each other.

"We have a new route every year and this year's one takes in Mayflower Park and two other parks in the city for the first time."

The event starts at 9am and the course takes in Southampton Common, The Bargate and Ocean Village.

Rolling police blocks will be in force on roads in the city centre as skaters pass.

People who register for Euroblade beforehand can claim a free breakfast at the St Mary's Stadium.
