SOUTHAMPTON City College catering students cooked up a storm in a challenge based on TV's Ready, Steady, Cook.

Students visited a local butcher, cheese factory and organic vegetable farm to select the ingredients from which to produce a top dish.

The event was organised in tandem with Hampshire Fare, which promotes the county's home grown food.

Tim Brock, of Hampshire Fare, judged the competition. He said: "By working with the chefs of tomorrow we can raise awareness and highlight the advantages of buying local produce. This exercise will show students the impact farmers have and the important role they play in the process of getting a quality product from the farm to the plate."
