Local anglers have been sampling some hectic sport along the Purbeck coastline.

And the three Bowditch brothers - Jason, Nigel and Shaun - who are members of the City of Southampton club had a cracking all-night session near Lulworth Cove.

The brothers, who have built up quite a reputation as specimen hunters in recent years, landing numerous quality fish, took four conger up to 30lb during the trip as well as losing far larger fish at close range.

Jason Bowditch also caught a very nice bull huss weighing 8lb 8oz while Shaun Bowditch took a huss of exactly 8lb during the action-packed session with mackerel baits doing the business.

Andy Richards, a 41-year old caretaker from Ringwood, also enjoyed a successful sortie to Purbeck, heaving a 9lb 14oz bass along with a brace of conger onto a rocky ledge close to Winspit.

Richards used fresh mackerel to tempt the hefty bass over the high water period during a late evening session - and followed up conger of 13lb and 18lb 1oz before the sport just ebbed away.

Yet another cracking blonde ray has been taken off The Needles with Julian Stephens, a 27-year-old technician from Southampton, the latest to strike while fishing from a small private boat.

The hefty specimen, which thumped the scales down to exactly 5lb, took a fresh mackerel bait resented on a 4/0 pennel rig. Several tope along with the usual dogfish and pouting were also taken during the same session.
