Lymington'S unbeaten five-match winning start in Southern Electric Premier League, Division 2 came to an abrupt end with a crushing 151-run defeat by Calmore Sports at Loperwood Park.

They were shot out for 104 after Simon Ennew had scored his maiden SPL century in Calmore's impressive 255 all out.

"The lads received some sad news that Gwen Sims - one of Calmore's stalwarts - had died the previous day after a courageous battle against a long-term illness, and wanted to pull out all the stops in her memory," said Calmore skipper James Hibberd.

"She was a lovely lady. One of the real Calmore people and we're going to miss her smiling face a lot at the club."

Ennew led the way for Calmore with a competitive best 101 and received timely support from Martin Bushell (39) and Charlie Freeston (22).

Australian all-rounder Karl Whatham took 3-49 before hitting 53, but apart from Glyn Treagus (24), who was run out, he lost partners all too regularly and watched in anguish as normally high-scoring Lymington tumbled to 104 all out.

Lymington's first defeat has put Alton - 156-run winners over Gosport Borough - top of the Premier 2 table.

Ben Jansen (53), Richie Morgan (49) and Howard Gadsby (40) led Alton's 249-5 onslaught, before John Halfacre (4-17) and Patrick Sampson (3-30) bowled Borough out for 89.

An undefeated half-century by Paul Edwards guided third-placed Hursley Park to a three-wicket win over St Cross Symondians at the Royal Green Jackets Ground.

Three top-order run-outs caused St Cross to stumble from 62-3 to 105-6 and an eventual 167 all out - a total the host club might have increased had Stuart Marks (3-41) not halted a late recovery by Mark Padwick (25) and Stuart Charman (24).

Hursley had their target score reduced to 154 from 46 overs - but got in after Matt Perry-lewis (3-39) had them struggling at 87-6.

Edwards (53no) and ChrisWheeler (40) turned things around before Andy Mark and Ollie Green made important contributions at the end.

Nick Creal smashed a 19-ball half-century to help Burridge reach 258. But it wasn't enough to prevent on-song Sparsholt from rattling up a six-wicket win on the strength of an undefeated 113 by Tim Richnings and a hard-hit 92 from Ryan Maddix.

They shared a fourth-wicket stand of 165 for Sparsholt, who are gradually closing the gap on the leading pack.

Ventnor clung on to beat Easton & Martyr Worthy by six runs in a Steephill thriller.

Ventnor totalled 232-6, but only just made it as Dave Birch (75), Kevin Neave (40) and Steve Green (40) took Easton to 226-8 in reply.
