Youngsters at primary schools across the New Forest are to compete to build the best solar powered model car.
Prizes in this year's Solar Car Challenge will be awarded for best car body and the fastest car.
The winners will be entered into the Hampshire final taking place on July 15.
Pupils at Hale Primary, Poulner Junior, Pennington Junior, Sopley Primary, Tiptoe Primary and Western Downland Primary schools have signed up for the event and will race in heats.
Having constructed the vehicles from special kits handed out by local authorities they will race at Ringwood Health and Leisure Centre on Thursday.
