Meon Valley-based motocross riders Billy Mackenzie and Andrew McFarlane were podium finishers in the second round of the British Championship at Cadders Hill near Ling in Norfolk.

Titchfield's Mackenzie rode the Bike It Dixon 450cc four-stroke Yamaha to second and third places in the MX1 Championship while former Australian champion McFarlane took second place on the MX2 category before brake probems forced him down to tenth place in the second race.

Young Scot Mackenzie was a close contender to take the win in both motos, despite having to discard his goggles in one race when flying sand from slower riders blinded his vision.

Josh Coppins won both races but Mackenzie's 52-point haul assured him of second overall and lifted him third in the championship.

McFarlane slipped from third to fourth position in the MX2 standings, despite taking second place to Stephen Sword. But the Dixon Yamaha man struggled to maintain speed second time out when a sticking brake saw him drop from fourth to tenth place.

McFarlane defied severe back pain, sustained in a heavy practice fall, to take fifth and seventh places in the MX2 World Championship round at Valkensvaard in Holland. It moved him up to third in the championship table.

Mackenzie had his best ride of the season in world event, taking tenth place for 14 points.
