Jon Barnes scored his maiden win in the Powertrain Caterham R400 Challenge at Silverstone - and created a piece of motor racing history in the process.

When the West End teenager took the chequered flag, he became the youngest winner of an R400 Challenge race.

Barnes's win gave him the overall championship lead and, just for good measure, he led home teammate Dominic Paul to secure a one-two for Team Parker Racing.

To cap a perfect day, his dad, David, completed the London Marathon in a personal-best time!

Barnes junior romped home to an 8.1 second victory in damp conditions. Unfortunately he didn't get the chance to repeat his success in the scheduled fourth round of the championship because torrential rain brought the meeting to a premature halt.

Just to prove he's bang on the pace, Barnes collected a couple of third places in the first round of the EuroCup series on the German Grand Prix circuit at Hockenheim.

Clive Richhards won both races but Barnes moved into joint second place in the championship with the next round at Nurburgring on May 8.
