ISLE of Wight musician Drew Kennet's debut album hits the shops on Monday.

Songs from the Devil's Chimney, which takes its name from an Isle of Wight landmark, was recorded both on the island and in the famous Abbey Road studios with the help of fellow islander Paul Butler from The Bees. It is set to take Drew's music career to new places.

But wherever his career may go, his feet are staying firmly planted on his home island.

"I went to college on the Island and did a leisure and tourism course. I don't know why I did it because I don't want to be a travel agent," says the 26-year-old singer-songwriter.

"After that I worked in hotels but there aren't many jobs down here. I was just glad I got into music - if I was doing any other career I would have to venture off the Island. I was born here and I've lived here all my life so if I can stay here, that's what I want to do."

Drew definitely thinks that the Isle of Wight has something special about it when it comes to music.

"I think where The Bees and I live, everyone is into music. It's quite an inspiring place and very beautiful down here.

"It's a good vibe on the music scene - everyone's trying to do their own stuff."

Drew and his band are becoming known to an international audience.

They recently toured Germany, supporting Belle and Sebastian, playing in front of 2,000 people in Berlin.

But they're still happy to play to decidedly smaller audiences.
