Bashley must stick with an adventurous 3-4-3 formation if they are to get any change out of league leaders Tonbridge Angels at the Longmead Stadium tomorrow.

So says Folkestone Invicta's highly-respected manager Neil Cugley, whose fourth-placed team were cut down to size 2-1 by the Foresters on Tuesday - the Kent club's first league defeat since Bash beat them 3-0 at the Recreation Ground 25 games earlier.

Invicta found Bashley's front three hard to handle with lively youngsters Richard Gillespie and Stuart Cannie complementing the strength and determination of skipper Danny Gibbons.

Manager John Robson revealed: "I had a good chat with Neil Cugley after the game and he reckons we should play the same system against Tonbridge because they're poor at the back and it will cause them problems."

Tonbridge's championship credentials were severely dented on Tuesday night when they tripped up 2-0 at lowly Newport IoW.

Adam Barsdell scored both goals for the Islanders, whose victory came as sweet music to Robson's ears.

The Bash boss said: "Newport beating them has done us the power of good for tomorrow - particularly after the way we played at Folkestone. We've played like that in a lot of games and have come away losing or drawing, but on Tuesday we deserved to win - and we did win!"

Victory pushes Bash up to ninth in the Eastern Division pecking order, still within touching distance of a top-seven/eight promotion place.

Robson had planned to bolster his squad for the all-important run-in, but has drawn a blank with his two main transfer targets.

Left-back Adam Lang has opted to stay with Guy Whittingham's AFC Newbury and striker Jamie Musselwhite is not prepared to leave Fareham Town with the prize of a Hampshire Senior Cup final at St Mary's on offer.

Gary Connolly's return has boosted numbers after a spell on loan at Havant & Waterlooville and Robson has signed AFC Totton's former Alton Town midfielder Clive Ventham on Dr Martens forms as emergency cover.

Midfielder Gareth Keeping (bruised foot) is still struggling for tomorrow and defender Paul Gazzard is definitely out after being stretchered off with a knee injury against Banbury last week. Initial fears were that Gazzard had knee ligament damage, but X-rays suggest it may be heavy bruising.
