Andover 4 Blackfield and Langley 0 Sydenham Wessex League

AFTER Saturday's events many feared a backlash on Tuesday with a lack of passion and motivation being possible factors.

After 90 odd minutes of blood and thunder nothing could have been further from that prediction as the sides went at each other to provide an evening of fractious but entertaining football with controversy and confusion thrown in for good measure.

With Justin Bennett and Phil Andrews both out suspended the attacking options were stretched but Lions went at the visitors and after 14 minutes Vince Rusher's free-kick deceived keeper Paul Bowers who fumbled the ball and failed to recover in time.

Blackfield countered and Mark Chapman's shot cannoned back off the bar then Alan Taylor's header was saved by Colin Hopkins.

Rusher then delivered another free-kick which Danny Sullivan headed home but the linesman was flagging for offside.

After Chris Bell had again hit the woodwork Lions took control and Sam Rea nodded home Lewis's perfect free-kick for the second.

Sadly the game soured near the hour as Paul Gulliver and Glen Damen were involved in an incident which saw Damen sent off for the second time in a week although he may well have a claim for mistaken indentity.

Sullivan then knocked home a rebound to make it three and Sam Rae's header rounded off a fine win.

Sadly another off the ball incident enflamed visiting defender Danny Neville who was sent off another giving a linesman verbal abuse.
