Dave Leworthy is starting to doubt the character of his Havant & Waterlooville side who stumbled to yet another Dr Martens League Premier Division defeat at Hednesford last night.

The hapless Hawks went down 1-0 to what Leworthy termed "a stupid goal" on the brink of half-time when a throw-out to Jamie Campbell was intercepted and the Hednesford scorer scythed straight through the defence before firing into the bottom corner.

It drops one-time leaders H&W to 18th in the Dr Martens Premier Division, trailing Hednesford on goal difference.

"We were outworked by a team who were below us in the league. Individually we had a few who put the effort in but we didn't work hard as a team," summed up Leworthy.

"When I took over I thought we had enough to reach a top-13 place comfortably, but now we've lost again a bit of doubt has crept in about our strength of character.

"Even with Neil Champion, Alec Masson and Aaron Skelton unavailable we should still have enough experience to get us in the top half."

Southampton-based marksman Craig McAllister scored twice and Argentinian midfielder Sergio Torres struck once for Basingstoke as they maintained their push for a top-13 finish with a 3-0 Ryman Premier Division win at St Albans.
