HIGH-FLYING ex-pupils returned to Winton and Rookwood School to celebrate their GCSE successes.

The former year 11 pupils were rewarded for their exam efforts with certificates, academic awards and community prizes.

Some 250 pupils and parents turned out for Winton's prize-giving, during which headteacher Andrew Smith congratulated the newly-departed teenagers on their GCSE results.

He said: "They were a very pleasant year group and a nice bunch of young people.

"We set them extremely high targets and I now wish them well for the future and encourage them to tell us what they are doing so they can go in our book of fame."

The academic award winners were Emma Adcock, Holly Arnold, Nicholas Ball, Sebastian Blake and Louise Porter. Scott Lindfield was presented with the John Morgan Service to the School Award.

Subject award winners were Holly Arnold, Jonathon Cohen, Sebastian Blake, Hannah Watts, Rachel Crean, Aneaka Ray, Louise Porter, David Scott, Laura Morgan and Marie Hamblin.

Rookwood School pupils celebrated another successful year of GCSE results at their senior prize giving ceremony, attended by Test Valley Mayor Pat West.

More than half the school's GCSE results were awarded at an A grade or A* grade and particularly outstanding were the history grades - all nine were A* or As.

Two of the school's major exam successes were Catriona Rose with seven A* grades and three As and headgirl Justine Ramsden with nine and a half A* grades and two A grades.

Former headgirl Justine Ramsden scooped all three of the school's main awards - the Dunning Cup for helpfulness, the Brammah Shield for all-round achievement and the Citizenship Cup.

Some of the school's younger pupils were also awarded for their achievements on the same evening.

The School Science prize went to Laura North and the Andover Town Twinning languages prizes was presented to Cassie Martin.

There will be more presentation evenings featured in next week's Andover Advertiser.
