THE boys of Dynamo School of Gymnastics followed in the successful footsteps of the girls at the Regional Championships held at the Pitt Street Centre in Portsmouth.

The under-12 age-group was dominated by Craig Lovelock with a score of 45.8.

In the individual apparatus competition, Lovelock took gold for the high bar, parallel bars and rings, silver for the vault and pommels and bronze for the floor.

In the same age-group, team new boy Alex Blake was hard on Lovelock's heels to ensure Dynamo took first and second in the overall championships.

Blake also took his fair share of individual apparatus medals with gold for floor and pommels, silver for the rings, parallel bars and vault - the latter a shared position with Lovelock.

Teammates Josh Cluett and Nathan Kitcher finished a creditable fifth and eighth respectively with Cluett securing bronze on the floor and parallel bars.

The under-14 competition proved to be a really tough one for Nathan Jones. A mistake in the pommel routine cost him the overall regional title by 0.2 of a mark from Abingdon's Jun Guzuki.

Individually, however, he took gold on the floor, rings, vault and parallel bars as well as silver for the pommel horse and high bar.

Competing in the under-10 age-group, Anthony Munday and Sam Price were 22nd and 25th respectively.

While the regional championships were taking place, Dynamo's shining star Vanessa Hobbs was competing against the world's best for the Great Britain team in Switzerland and Germany. Director of coaching Debbie Hampton said: "Dynamo School of Gymnastics is unique with its ability to be tops in both boys' and girls' gymnastics. There are very few clubs in the country that are able to compete at this level."
