Craig Davis paid off another chunk of his £15,000 transfer fee by scoring his second goal in Salisbury colours at home to Erith & Belvedere last night.

Whites now lead the local challenge in the Dr Martens Eastern Division, moving up to fourth place on the back of a 3-0 success over the struggling Kent side.

"We're not very fluent in the way we're playing, but we're winning games," said assistant manager Tom Killick as Whites stretched their unbeaten league sequence to eight matches.

"I hope we can keeping the run going," he added, "because when we do get it together, we should be quite strong."

Midfield man Davis coolly beat the keeper in the 68th minute after Adam Wallace had used his initiative with a quickly-taken free kick.

Either side of that goal, the Whites scored with two diving headers - Steve Strong launching himself at at Wayne Turk's cross from the right after 47 minutes and then substitute Leigh Phillips polishing off another Turk delivery two minutes from time.

Eastleigh battled through 80 minutes with ten men at the Spartshatts Stadium, but still made it three wins out of three over Newport IoW this season - this time in the Hampshire Senior Cup.

Tough-tackling midfielder Danny Woods, making a surprise comeback from long-term Achilles trouble, found himself back on the sidelines after 40 minutes having seen red for a second bookable offence.

Eastleigh came close to winning in normal time when Tyronne Bowers hit the post, but the tie spilled into an extra half-hour and it was home skipper Rob Marshall who finally settled it with a thumping close-range finish four minutes from time.

The result reversed a disastrous run of three straight losses for Eastleigh and manager Paul Doswell said: "To play that amount of time with ten men and still win was fantastic.

"Our back four of Marshall, Chris Collins, Danny Rofe and Christer Warren were the key to everything.

"We got nasty for a change tonight. The lads were fed up having the mickey taken out of them."

BAT's Sydenhams Wessex fixture at Cowes Sports fell foul of the weather, so manager Andy Leader watched future Vase opponents AFC Wimbledon beat Ash United 1-0 in the Surrey Senior Cup.

"From what I've seen, we haven't got too much to fear in a one-off game," said Leader, whose side host the Dons at Bashley on Sunday week (December 14).
