Embley Park first team turned the tables on local rivals Godolphin School from Salisbury.

In the past, Embley have always been the weaker side as far as netball is concerned - but they are coming through strong and proved it with a win.

In the first half both teams seemed quite evenly matched and both had their share of possession.

Embley's Lucy Hedges defended forcefully, getting in plenty of interceptions which made a real difference to the team and put pressure on Godolphin.

Hazelle Garton and Melissa Gallagher backed her up with some great play and brought their direction skills, which they have been working on very hard in training, into a game situation.

Boosted by a motivating half-time team talk, Embley shrugged off the absence of their centre and main shooter who were both ill.

They compensated by working harder as a team.

In attack, Elle Armstrong was the main link and proved the strong shooter for the side. As a goal attack, she also does a lot of court work to help build play so that the ball gets to the circle.

Armstrong produced some lovely shooting and was putting the ball up well when she got it to get Embley back on a winning track.

Steady Annie Doyle did well at wing attack, putting some wonderful balls into the circle.

She fed a get ball into Rhiaina Lewis, captain for the game, whose great shot gave Embley the lead

Lewis, in her first game as shooter, showed a great attitude and played very well out of position.

She has come a long way since the start of the season to cement a place for herself in the team.

Embley's pressure caused Godolphin to make errors and they maintained their lead to the finish.

Can you help our calendar girls?

IF you've seen the film, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Helen Mirren and co have been baring all - well, nearly all - on the big screen to tell the story of the famous WI calender girls.

Now local netball girls have volunteered for a similar project to raise funds for charity.

There's been a fair bit of interest - from the male gender.

My mission is to get the calendar up together for next year - 2004.

The charity that I have chosen is a local one called Rose Road.

Now I need help to get the calendar up and running. I have picked 12 girls to be models. I've also had the support from Evolution hair salon to do their hair as a form of sponsorship.

And I'm now looking to raise funds to make the calendar.

I think it would be a great sponsorship for any company.

The calendar will be sold to the public and it's for a very good cause.

Anyone interested in taking part in such a great opportunity please contact me on the above e-mail address.

I would be interested in all thoughts and ideas for the calendar.

If all goes to plan I would be hoping to release the calendar at the end of this month or in early December. But time is running out and we need your support to make this happen to help young children have a better life.

Already Virgin Cosmetics have come forward to help the project along with Graham Jackson Photography, based in Romsey (01794) 519195.
