A puddle-strewn course failed to put the dampers on the Lordshill Ten with one of the biggest fields the event has attracted crossing the finish line.

But all of them were behind Salford Harrier Andy Morgan-Lee who splashed his way to victory unopposed in just over 53 minutes.

The Hampshire-based athlete, who runs second string for Southampton Running Club, never looked like troubling the course record in the blustery and wet conditions and ended up two minutes off the best time.

Shona Crombie-Hicks stormed home in 1.01.31 to take the women's title with ease.

The Mornington Chasers' runner came home two minutes ahead of Southampton RC's Kaye Harwood and six-hand-a-half minutes in front of third-placed Beverly Edwards of Winchester & District AC.

Race spokesman Janet McGarry said: "It one of the most successful 10 mile road races organised by Lordshill Road Runners with many runners entered from outside the local area.

The weather was bad and never showed any signs of abating, but with a final field of 315 it proved that runners do not worry about the conditions - indeed, some even seemed to relish them.

Southampton RC won the men's team event. Winchester & District came home second but their women managed to scoop the ladies' team title with Denmead Striders behind them.
