Manager Dave Diaper described his VTFC as "a Wessex League team playing in the Hampshire League" after their resounding 5-1 victory over Premier Division title rivals Andover New Street on Saturday.

New Street were second and Vospers third before the game at Foxcotte Park, but Diaper reckoned: "We looked a league apart.

"We have got people coming back from injury and suspension now and it's starting to show."

Vospers roared into a four-goal interval lead with Michael Spinney powerfully completing a first-half hat-trick.

Andover New Street, who turned Diaper's team over in the Trophyman Cup and came into the game on the back of a winning performance at Poole last week, had no answer to VT's strength and resourcefulness and goals from midfield players Martin Cornwall and Martin Barnes completed a surprisingly comfortable victory for the Woolston-based side.

There was another summit meeting at Lymington Town's Sports Centre where the New Forest side's seven-match winning run was reduced to rubble by table-topping Horndean.

"It was more a case of us being bad than them being good," claimed Lymington secretary Mike Woodfield.

But, after Lymington pulled back to 2-1 just before half-time through Paul Sims, there was belief in the home camp that they could go on and get something out of it. But Horndean's strength shone through and, despite losing their 'keeper through injury in the first half, they eased home 3-1 through Steve Warwick (2) and Gary Muller.

Manager Barry Andrews missed what was only Stockbridge's second win of the season. While they were edging a 2-1 win at Fawley, Andrews was playing for the injury-hit reserves whose ten men were ravaged 9-0 by leading Isle of Wight side Oakfield in the Hampshire Intermediate Cup.

Meanwhile, down in the Premier Division basement, Brading Town snatched a late, late equaliser against Aldermaston to keep the north Hampshire side penned to the bottom. Midfielder Mark Pateman struck for Brading with just five minutes to go and their secretary Roy Penney summed up: "Considering we had six or seven players out, we were happy with a point."

Colden Common strikers ran riot with 20 goals for their two sides.

The reserves thumped AFC Portchester 13-0 in Combination 1 and old favourite Tim Richman, who has just come back following a knee operation, led the way with a hat-trick backed up by Keenan Phillips with two.

Steve Waters' first team put seven past Highcliffe in the Hampshire Intermediate Cup with Rich Lang getting a hat-trick, Dean Higgins two and Joe Hodge and Ben Arnold one each.

Mottisfont maintained their unbeaten record in Division 2, but they weren't celebrating after a 1-1 draw at DC AFC. After Dave Kemp put them ahead, Motts missed numerous chances and paid for it when the Salisbury side equalised in the last minute.
