A PROUD grandmother, Mrs J E Glue, has sent in a poem written by her 9-year-old grandson and she was right to think I would be very impressed.

It is a wonderfully vivid piece of writing where our young author has considered in great detail how this familiar and powerful emotion feels.

Poetry is a very effective way of communicating strong feelings which can sometimes seem to be beyond words. To put them into words, the poet ties them to real, concrete images.

The poet asks himself: 'How does anger feel?' 'What does it taste like?' 'What does it smell like?'

The answers to these questions can surprise the writer and the reader, and bring all kinds of vivid and original images to the surface.

James's poem is an excellent example of creating something fresh out of something that seems

familiar.

For this excellent poem, James received a Head Teacher's Award from his school.

His head teacher wrote: "Wow! What can I say? You should feel very proud of your efforts, because I certainly am.

"Well done James!"

Well done, indeed.
