MODEST Lymington & New Milton boss Ian Robinson refused to take credit for the tactical wizardry behind last night's 5-1 win over Blackfield & Langley.

With the Linnets trailing to a first-half Darren Curtis own goal, Robinson hailed skill-laden duo Paddy James and Ben Thomson off the bench in the 55th minute and then introduced Saturday's FA Cup hero Ollie Shaw five minutes later.

The changes worked like a dream with James and Thomson scoring two apiece and Shaw weighing in with the other.

"Some people would call it inspired substitutions, but I'd just call it bloody lucky!" laughed Robinson who, along with the three super subs, rested goalkeeper Alan Walker-Harris in favour of Mike Hookway.

"I just about got away with it," he said. "Blackfield worked hard and the own goal gave them something to hold on to. We had plenty of chances but they threw everything at us - legs, head, feet and kitchen sink - to try and keep us out."

Pick of the night's goals was James's second - a delicious curler over the keeper against his old club.

Linnets' latest signing is ex-Bashley and Winchester City right-sided player John Mulhern, who is likely to feature in tonight's Wessex Combination match at Wimborne.

Robinson's old club AFC Totton also emerged 5-1 winners after falling behind to an early Whitchurch United goal at Testwood Park.

Steve Caswell's fifth-minute free kick plunged them into arrears, but two quick replies from Matt Parnell and Martin Whiddett turned the tables before Gareth Byers made it 3-1 at half-time.

Skipper Whiddett capped another inspired performance by completing his hat-trick in the second half. The win hoists Totton up to third in the table, two points behind Gosport Borough who moved level with leaders Winchester thanks to a narrow 1-0 result at Christchurch.

Graham Lindsey was the Borough hero, heading in off the underside of the crossbar from a corner on the stroke of half-time.

Priory have signed former BAT goalkeeper Steve Shergold as competition for Max Frampton.

The Fareham jinx continued for Moneyfields at Cams Alders where Calvin Hore's men were dealt a 2-1 defeat.

The Money men have never beaten their near neighbours in Wessex combat and there was little sign of that changing in last night's one-sided game encounter. They mustered only two shots on goal and scored from the second in the 89th minute.

Danny Hopkins had fired Fareham ahead in the 16th minute with a wonder goal from just outside the box - a great way to mark his return from injury.

Town's top scorer Jamie Musslewhite missed two sitters but finally got it right in the 73rd minute, hammering home amid the scramble for Paul Morby's cross.

Hamble ASSC will have to rethink their midweek schedule after losing on a third successive Tuesday night at Follands Park.

Having suffered at the hands of Cowes Sports and Bemerton, Larry Clay's men were sunk again 2-1 by Thatcham.

The damage was done with two goals in two minutes by Danny Oatway and Bob McLay midway through the first half.

Steve Whitcher gave the Planemakers hope with a 68th-minute reply but they couldn't capitalise on their late pressure.

Alton Town prised themselves off the foot of the table by claiming their first point in a 2-2 draw at Downton.

It could have been better still for Alton, but having let a two-goal lead slip they missed a late penalty.

Simon Pullman and Adam Lucas put Alton in the clear but, within a minute of the second goal, Mark Savage's header went in off a defender to give Downton hope.

Left-back Kevin Pelling nabbed Downton's equaliser before teammate Matt Guy had a potential winner disallowed.
