FLORAL tributes have been placed at the spot where a New Forest father was killed in a road accident.

The man who died has been named as Steve Cooper, 42, of Cedar Road, Hythe, who is understood to have been walking home when the accident happened.

Mr Cooper, who was married with children, was only a few hundred yards from his semi-detached house on the Netley View estate.

He was crossing Fawley Road when he was in collision with a Vauxhall Astra that was travelling towards Hythe. The driver has not been named.

Mr Cooper's friends and relatives have placed a large number of bouquets on the pavement beside the spot where he died.

Members of his family were too upset to talk about the tragedy.

The accident, on Thursday night, took place just two miles from where Hampshire firefighter Shaun Hale was killed the previous evening.

Mr Hale, 21, of The Warren, Holbury, died when his BMW car careered off the road, smashed into a lamppost and burst into flames.

As reported in the Daily Echo, the blaze was extinguished by Mr Hale's colleagues from nearby Hardley fire station.

Anyone who witnessed either accident should ring the traffic unit at Lyndhurst police station on 0845 045 4545.
