GOLDFRAPP are a duo made up of former Tricky vocalist Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory. Their debut album Felt Mountain, released last year was a huge seller - half a million at the last count.

The music press called it "top hallucinatory pop. Deliriously good."

Great things are now expected from this decadent outfit, starting with the just-released follow-up album Black Cherry.

This is fantasy music and their live performances are laden with glamour. They are not a band afraid to make an impact. Alison says of their previous live dates: "The shows often started very controlled and really intense, so it was a big release to be able to hit things, to let go and explode."

Alison grew up in Hampshire, experiencing a mix of suburbia and countryside. She didn't realise the true potential of her voice - later likened to 'morphine, sugar and ice' - until she spent three years in Belgium, singing with a contemporary dance group. These life experiences have been used in the escapist themes that now appear in her music. Along the way she also picked up a degree in Fine Art.

Her persona comes out in her music, although there's a happier tone to Black Cherry when compared to the debut.

That over-used phrase 'one to watch' applies here- with bells on.
