HERE it is pop pickers - the winner of the Daily Echo's Song for Saints competition.

Storming straight in at number one in the unofficial cup final anthem phone vote is Lloyd Two's All Southampton.

A grand total of 1,505 votes were cast in the week-long phone vote and the lines were red hot as seven unofficial songs jostled for position.

Lloyd Two swept the board with 678 votes but the fourth placed song in our competition Southampton Boys by The Red and White Machines could be heading for top 20 national chart success this weekend according to early sales figures.

Writer and producer of All Southampton, Adrian Payne, whose brother Russell played drums, was delighted at the popularity of his tribute to the Saints' first cup final appearance since 1976.

"I'm very, very pleased," said the 44-year-old who now lives in Epsom near London.

"I just hope now that the fans have an opportunity to hear it. It's a fun song and I hope the fans will be singing it on the terraces and when Saints bring the cup home."

The single's success was predicted by the Daily Echo Saints reporters Adam Leitch and Jeremy Wilson and it had to have its lyrics changed from "red and white" to "yellow and blue" after the announcement of the team's strip.

In second place came company manager Mike Shannon, from Rownhams, with We are Southampton Football Club with 216 votes, while 32-year-old Martin Murphy from West End came third with his song Just Like 76.

Meanwhile The Red and White Machines are predicting a top 20 smash when the charts are announced after their single Southampton Boys

A spokesman for HMV could not reveal the sales figures but confirmed the first day's sales would put the single in the top 30 at least as things stand.

Co-writer Carl McIntosh of Mark Hill Productions has been rushed off his feet ensuring that enough copies of the CD single deliveries are in the shops.

Power FM DJ Des Paul who has been promoting the song, said that bookies Ladbrooks have now closed the book on bets for the song to reach the top ten. You can buy Adrian Payne's All Southampton priced £3.99 at FM Music in the Bargate Centre, Football Memorabilia in Old Northam Road, Southampton and Hedge End Post Office.
