BECKI Stanley of Southampton Trampoline Club is going up in the world.

The talented teenager has been selected for Great Britain's five-strong over-17 squad to compete in the World Championships in Stuttgart this October.

Stanley has achieved what coach Howard Tear describes as "amazing results" in the last three months to justify her selection.

She was third in the Grade 1 competition in Sheffield, performing a 10.9 tariff routine and did even better at the Burgess Hill Grade 1 by topping the over-18 category.

That was followed by an eighth place at the women's competition in Cardiff and the club have their fingers crossed that her combined total in the three events clinch her a place in the four-strong team for Stuttgart.

"Becki is currently working on a 12.2 tariff routine and should be performing this in competition by the time the World Championships come around," said Tear.

Stanley also receives great support from Richard Mason Sports and the Southampton Institute Scholarship Scheme.

All in all, it's turning into a highly successful season for the Southampton club. They currently have seven performers at the top Grade 1 level and, in Cardiff, Claire Madigan managed the highest form score in the over-18 girls' competition, earning her seventh place overall.

Steph Stanley achieved the qualifying score for the National Grade 1 Finals, which means STC now have four trampolinists qualified for the Birmingham NEC in July - Steph and Becki Stanley, Madigan and Katie Woodgate.

At Grade 2 level, Amy Sheeham and Sam House have both made the national finals. They were part of the Southampton team that came second in the qualifiers. Individually Sheeham was sixth, House 11th and Grace Husband, competing in her first ever Grade 2 competition, finished halfway.

There were promising results too at the Grade 3, 4 and 5 competitions in Reading, where Amanda Chinnick and Aaron Filmore won their respective over-18 Grade 4 events to qualify for Grade 3.

Donna Bennett won the Grade 3 event and, with Katie Garrett and Grace Husband, qualified up to National Grade 2.

Coach Tear reflected: "Because we have the likes of Becki and Claire training in the same hall at the same time as the novices, the youngsters are able to observe top-level trampolining.

"We also have 14 trampolines and experienced coaches, but most of all there is tremendous team spirit in the club with a lot of our top trampolinists helping to coach and encourage the less experienced competitors."

The icing on the cake came when four club members represented Taunton's College at the British Colleges Finals in Loughbourgh and won the under-19 girls' team title. Individually Claire Madigan was second and Steph Stanley third.

The other two team members, Lisa Prowting and Katie Waine, produced solid scores to secure the prestigious title.
