Stuart Doling has resigned as Lymington & New Milton caretaker manager after less than a month at the Fawcett's Field helm.

The 30-year-old ex-Pompey pro, who replaced Graham Kemp at the end of February, has stepped down because of work commitments.

The Linnets have responded by appointing a permanent successor. Taking charge for last night's 1-0 home defeat by Thatcham was Gary Squires, a former Linnets reserve team manager who, until yesterday, was assistant boss of Lymington Town.

His right-hand man is Dave Jones, who was coach at the club during Derek Binns' reign.

The pair were officially handed the reins prior to last night's match, which was settled by a 72nd-minute Mark Green goal.

Chairman Charlie Hewlett said: "Stuart was appointed as caretaker to help us out of a spot, but he couldn't fully commit the time to managing the team. Now Gary and Dave will pick up the pieces. We badly need some stability, but we'll get through this."

The future of Brockenhurst manager Pete Moore was also believed to be in the balance following last night's 2-0 home reverse by Christchurch.

Moore was seeking talks with new chairman Brian Small after the match in which third-to-bottom Brock were stung by goals from Ross Edwards and Lee Manning.

AFC Totton's seven-match winning streak came to an abrupt halt at fourth-to-bottom Downton.

Despite taking the lead midway through the second half with a Martin Whiddett header, John Robson's Stags were caught out by a deflected Matty Guy shot and a 20-yarder from Calvin Cranmer which beat keeper Wayne Shaw at his near post.

Prior to scoring, Winchester City target Whiddett had had a shot tipped onto the bar by Downton's young goalkeeping talent Glen Craven and Shaw saved well from Guy.

Second-to-bottom Blackfield & Langley can breathe more easily after basement boys Whitchurch were beaten 3-1 at Moneyfields. Sean Wain, Dean Dalton and Mark Stewart struck for the home club before Gary Shaughnessy replied with a late penalty.
