Bridget Phelps has taken over as chairman of the Mid Hampshire Primary Care Trust.

She succeeds Barbara North, who left in November to become chairman of Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare Trust.

The new chairman has been a non-executive director of Winchester and Eastleigh NHS Trust for the past two years, having previously worked for the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, helping charities contribute to national health and social care policy and practice.

She said: "I greatly look forward to working with colleagues in surgeries, pharmacies, dental practices and other community services. I hope we will continue to develop health services in and around Winchester and Andover."

In announcing her appointment, chief executive, Chris Evennett, said: "Her appointment will further strengthen our desire to put patients in the forefront of our services by ensuring that all the care agencies, including the voluntary sector, are working to a common agenda."

The trust represents the interests of more than 174,00 patients registered with GPs. It is responsible for providing community health services, such as district nursing and child protection, as well as commissioning health services from hospital and specialist providers of healthcare.
