WHENEVER a friend comes to stay for a few days it's only fair to show them the sights.

Unfortunately in Totton's case historical landmarks, monuments, victorian forts and follies are far and few between - in fact, one of the town's highlights is Gandhi's Indian cuisine. Ideally situated in the heart of the town, Gandhi's is a friendly family-run business where customer relations is certainly the name of the game. Our Monday night visit saw the restaurant surprisingly busy.

On arrival we were quickly shown to our table for four and were all supplied with crispy poppadoms and the obligatory pints of Kingfisher.

Starters first, and two of us opted for the firm favourite mixed kebab which consisted of an onion bhaji, sammi kebab and sheek kebab with side salad and garnish. My housemate went for the tasty aloo chat while our sofabed-aholic visitor opted for the delicious chicken chat.

When going to Gandhi's, my tip is to starve yourself all day and that's what we all did, finishing my starters in record speed. On to the main course and I chose my favourite karia chicken tikka which was complimented by tasty tomato, crispy onion and my personal favourite - the unbeatable mushroom rice.

My friend is as regular as clockwork with his Passanda which he said was as good as ever while my housemate opted for the spicy lamb jalfrezey plus pilau rice, which was well up to the fine standard expected from Totton's premier curry restaurant.

Our guest of honour, plumped for lamb tikka bhuna plus pilau rice which he said was excellent. If you're looking for an Indian night out where the food, surroundings and service is first class then get down to Totton!

The bill for four starters, four main courses, and eight pints plus complimentary mints and liqueurs came to a touch over £60 - an absolute bargain for the finest in Indian cuisine.
