ONE OF the most popular watering holes on the Island is having a refit costing almost £1m.
Work at The Wight Mouse Inn at Chale is set to be completed in June in time for the summer season.
The award-winning pub has new managers, husband-and-wife team Roger and Christine Burston.
It is a particularly popular watering-hole for the many walkers that ply the Island's coastal paths during the holiday season and remains open for business during the refit.
Mr Burston said: "The Wight Mouse is a pub with great character and while we are new to the area, we already recognise the huge part this pub plays within the local community.
"In due course, an £885,000 restoration will see the creation of a new kitchen and cellar plus a sun terrace providing customers with superb views to Portland and Swanage. But in the meantime, we remain very much open for business."
