A SUPER-efficient, cost-saving home opens its doors in Fareham this month.

The house will offer tips on how to make homes secure, accident-free and energy efficient. Fareham mayor, Councillor Pamela Bryant, will open the Ideas (innovative designs for energy efficiency, accident prevention and security) House at Acton Lodge in West Street next Friday.

The house has been converted and refurbished by the Atlantic Housing Group in association with the Housing Corporation and Fareham Borough Council.

Councillor Ernest Crouch, executive member for housing, said: "We are confident of building on the success of the previous Ideas Home 2000 which attracted 900 visitors. The Ideas Home 2003 will teach people how to carry out cost effective improvements to their own home.''

When the home closes on March 15, it will reopen as a Life Skills Accommodation Centre.

The project will be run by Two Saints Ltd and will provide accommodation and training in a wide range of skills, including information technology, for formerly homeless people leaving the Fareham Nightshelter.

The aim is to increase their job prospects and equip them for independent living.
