AS RESIDENTS of Lee-on-the-Solent bolster support for their campaign against plans for an asylum seeker centre at Daedalus, the Daily Echo is asking for your show of support.

In today's Fareham & Gosport edition we have published a petition form for our readers to fill in and send back in support of the campaign to force the government to think again about the plans to use the former MoD base as an asylum centre.

The small community was rocked earlier this week when the Home Office confirmed the site was being earmarked as a front-runner for the centre as part of a new policy on dealing with asylum seekers.

Backed by the Daily Echo, the residents of Lee-on-the-Solent are forming an action group and planning a series of protests at the proposals.

They argue that an influx of 400 plus people in a town with a population of 6,000 will place an unfair burden on local public services.
