AS NATIONAL Marriage Week comes to a close with luvvie-duvvie Valentine's Day, Southampton Operatic Society believes it knows exactly what it is talking - or rather singing - about when it comes to romance.

The society, due to perform Some Enchanted Evening, a musical tribute to love and romance, at the Turner Sims Concert Hall, Southampton on Saturday February 22, claims to have no fewer than 18 couples among its members - all of whom were brought together through their love of singing.

"Just as our songs trace the journey through the first flush of love through to marriage and beyond, so we have couples who have just got together, those who are shortly to marry and those who have celebrated umpteen anniversaries - all of whom met while performing on stage," says society chairman Adam Case.

"I don't know what the success rate of the average dating agency is but with so many couples united through their love of singing, I think we can argue that although it's not the primary aim of the society to act as Cupid, it's a very happy side-effect."

February 22, Turner Sims Concert Hall, Southampton. Tickets: £6. Box office: 023 8059 5151.
