CURRENTLY enjoying the limelight thanks to his script for this week's major movie release, the Oscar-tipped The Hours, playwright David Hare is back in the theatre with a new production of his tense drama Amy's View.

First performed in 1997, when it starred Judi Dench, the family epic spans a 16-year period from 1979 to 1995 and details the strained relations between Esme, a West End actress of the old school fallen on hard times, her daughter Amy and Amy's boyfriend Dominic - a journalist turned 'media monolith' who is completely uninterested in the theatre and everything that Esme stands for.

Amy's View, a co-production by Salisbury Playhouse and Northampton Theatre, follows a production of David Hare's The Secret Rapture at the Playhouse two years ago.

February 20 until March 15, Salisbury Playhouse. Box office: 01722 320333.
