Vosper Thornycroft boss Dave Diaper is hoping Winchester City's FA Vase run puts them off their Southampton Senior Cup bid.

Cup holders Vosper are in league action against Lymington Town tomorrow but have an eye on next month's semi-final against Mottisfont.

Victory on March 12 would put them into the St Mary's final, with Winchester due to contest the other semi against Bishop's Waltham a week earlier.

Diaper said: "I was very impressed with Winchester's result at Burgess Hill last week. It was good to see, to be honest. I think they're doing the Hampshire League and local football in general a lot of good.

"I wish them well in the quarter-finals but I hope it means that they take their minds off the Southampton Senior Cup!"

Vosper midfielder Dean Byrne begins a 45-day suspension tomorrow but Diaper otherwise has a full strength squad to choose from for the visit of Lymington.

Winchester City boss Neil Hards will name the same squad that won at Burgess Hill for the visit of Brading tomorrow.

Hards did not call on any of his substitutes in the FA Vase last week and only used one late in the game at Newcastle in the previous round.

But he missed out on the chance to play any of Saturday's subs on Wednesday night as Winchester's game at Fawley was postponed.

Hards said: "That was a pain because I was hoping to play those players who didn't get a game at Burgess Hill. I could do that on Saturday but it's a not a good idea for players to go more than a week without a game. I like to keep them ticking over.

"There was no need to use any subs last week because there were no injuries and we were playing so well. We'll name the same squad that played at Burgess Hill and then go from there."

East Cowes Vics missed the chance to go above Winchester on Tuesday night as their game at Horndean was also postponed.

Winchester remain top with five games in hand and face a major fixture pile-up if games continue to be postponed while they continue their progress in four cup competitions.

Hards added: "We're going to have to play about 25 games in three weeks at this rate!"

Centre back Dave Goss remains Winchester's only injury doubt with a thigh strain.

Fawley travel to Andover New Street with co-manager Jeff Moore insisting: "We're the form club on the Waterside."

Bottom of the table Fawley clocked up a 5-2 victory against fellow strugglers Aldermaston last week - the perfect response to a 7-1 defeat at Winchester earlier in the week.

Tomorrow they are likely to hand a debut to midfielder Danny Smart, a Southampton University student who is one of three recent signings made by Moore and Kevin Jones, who took over from Neil Prosser at the end of last year.

Centre back Ben Craig, another university student, and striker Matt Martin are the others.

Moore said: "Matt has scored a lot of goals in Sunday league football and all of the new signings came to us because we showed them that we are not going to lie down and accept being bottom. Confidence is high at the moment."

Centre back Richie Rastell and midfielder Ian Moore, Jeff's son, are both struggling with ankle injuries.

Hythe and Dibden are preparing for the visit of Pirelli General with the news that striker Chris Watts is likely to be out for the rest of the season. The postponement of Hythe's six-pointer at Aldermaston on Wednesday night added to the Waterside club's woes this week.

Manager Dave Cox said: "We're going to miss Chris but I had just about everyone else available for the Aldermaston game so not to play that was very frustrating.

"The way things stand we might not even play on Saturday. We need better drainage and if we don't get it we're not going to get any momentum going. If we do play we should at least have a few players back from injury."
