A GROUP dedicated to improving the environment of a Southampton housing estate are urging residents to get involved.

The Thornhill Tidy Team are working on projects all over the neighbourhood.

First-time volunteer Colette Frost-Bridges cannot wait to start upgrading the nature trail at Hightown Primary School.

The mother-of-two said: "It's perfect for a single mum at home alone - it gets me out of the house, helping the community and seeing the benefits from it in terms of both mental health and physical wellbeing.

"Also, I've only lived on the estate for a year and this is a great way to meet new friends."

Tidy Team project officer Neil Kelly said: "There's a great deal to be gained. It's quite interesting for people who want to learn new skills and re-enter the job market. It builds confidence up to go back into work."
