Two young sailors from Hill Head sailing Club have returned from competing in the Mirror World Championships in Tasmania with their best ever performance. Ned McNulty (14, from Curdridge, Hampshire) and Tom Hodkinson(13, from Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire) came 3rd in the under 16 category.

In all there were 12 entries from Great Britain in the 102 strong fleet, which included competitors from seven countries. Sailing in the waters of the Derwent River at Hobart was an exhilarating experience for Ned and Tom.

They say it was some of the best sailing they have ever enjoyed. The conditions were taxing, with strong and changeable winds, calling equally for good tactics and boat handling.

Ned and Tom are both members of the RYA Junior Squad and have benefited from the Volvo RYA Champion Club programme run by Hill Head Sailing Club. With Ned's boat "Blew" returning from Tasmania by container, he now has to undergo a knee operation, but they will be back training hard again in the Spring, ready for the British and Irish National Championships.
