A DISABLED pensioner has been confined to her Basingstoke home following a vandalism attack on her electric scooter.

The pensioner, from Dankworth Road, Brighton Hill - who does not wish to be named for fear of reprisals - is waiting for her scooter to be repaired after vandals tore off the plastic covers, ripped out wires and took the baskets from the front and rear.

The attack, which happened on the afternoon of Thursday, January 16, took place outside her son's home in Brighton Hill.

The 66-year-old, who has used a scooter for five years, said she could not understand why somebody would try to destroy a form of transport that is used by the elderly.

"The people who did this are despicable," she said. "They have either not thought about their actions or they are completely unfeeling."

She urged all scooter users to be careful where they park their transport.

"There are many people who rely on these scooters for their freedom," she said. "Mine was parked off the road on my son's path but somebody still got their hands on it."

Fortunately, she has insurance which will cover the cost of repairs.

However, she said: "This attack has caused me a lot of anxiety and stress, and I have not been able to leave my home without the use of my scooter."
