SOUTHERN Water has become one of the first organisations in England to gain the new Matrix standard for its commitment to learning.
The Matrix standard is the new national quality mark for businesses and organisations delivering information, advice and guidance services about learning and work.
Martin Baggs, Southern Water operations director, was
presented with the award by the Minister for Adult Learning and Skills, Ivan Lewis, at a ceremony in London.
Southern Water has four open learning
facilities at its sites in Otterbourne, Chatham, Worthing and Falmer. They are used by staff, their families and organisations working with community groups.
Chris Tate, Southern Water learning manager, said: "Gaining the Matrix standard is a landmark for the company. It demonstrates the commitment Southern Water has to providing continual learning for both employees and the communities we work with in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Kent and Sussex.''
The Matrix standard
is awarded by The Guidance Council on behalf of the Department for Education and Skills to organisations which have achieved the standard's 54 performance measures in ten areas.
Mr Lewis said: "Gaining the Matrix standard is an important milestone for organisations.''
