SISTERS Charlotte and Abigail Slater starred when the City of Southampton staged their annual club championships at The Quays.

Eight club records were smashed during the championships, two of which had stood for ten years.

The Slater sisters both swam exceptionally well to gain top places in all but one of their events, collecting 17 trophies between them.

Charlotte, swimming in the 11/12 year age group, gained 11 personal bests and 13 trophies from 14 events!

Abigail (8), swimming for the first time in the championships, swam in the nine-year-and-under section and gained trophies in all her four events, setting a new record in the 25m butterfly (28.04).

Other girls swimming in the 11/12 year age group included Hayley Couchman, first in the 100m IM (1.26.05), Natasha Day, Joanne Oliver, Winnie Magadi and Emily Webber, who all won medals.

Jade Sheath, Beth Albery, Sophie Burke and Kate Williams all swam well in the girls' ten-year events with Jade winning the 100m freestyle (1.20.49) and 50m butterfly (43.30).

Beth collected trophies in the 50m breaststroke (53.26), 50m backstroke (44.20) and 100m IM (1.44.22).

Trophies on the finals night in the 13/14 year girls' section were shared between Emma Macey, Hannah Glasspool and Angela Fu.

In the backstroke, Glasspool took gold (1.12.96) and Fu set a new club record in the 100m breaststroke (1.18.54) with Sarah Brown taking silver.

Emma Macey collected trophies in the remaining events.

Unable to swim in the finals due to other commitments, Emma Wicks had collected top places on the previous longer distance events.

The older girls in the 17-plus-years events saw Harriet Pierce, Erin Marshall and Alex Hamilton collecting trophies. Hamilton also claimed two club records, smashing her own 100m freestyle record in a new time of under one minute (59.76) and the 100m IM (1.11.55).

The boys also swam well, Mitchell Parker and Alex Cameron-Calvo battling it out for top places in the nine-years-and-under age group.

Cameron-Calvo also set a club record in the 25m butterfly (22.34).

Spencer Haysom swam well at the finals in the ten-year group, collecting trophies in all his events, with George Jubb winning silver medals. Jubb won several trophies in the longer-distance events.

Throughout all the championship events, David Ruff, Jamie Cole and Samuel Sharpe have battled for the top slot in the 11/12-year age group and were all successful in different events.

David Ruff set a new club record in the 100m butterfly (1.19.02).

Of the 13/14-years boys, Luke Horswell gained the most trophies with Nicholas Edwards winning the 100m breaststroke (1.28.76) and 400m IM (5.43.09) and claiming silver medals in his other events.

The older boys (15/16 years) Zach Stevens, David Mugridge, David Bywater and Luke Clewlow shared the trophies between them.

The 17-plus years saw two ten-year-old club records broken, with Chris Jones taking the 100m breaststroke (1.08.56) and John Audis the 100m backstroke (59.89).
